EarthShare of Texas Week: September 18-26, 2010
The first EarthShare of Texas week is scheduled for September 18-26, 2010 and marks the kick-off of the fall workplace giving campaign season. The US Federal Government, Texas State Employees, a number of Texas Cities and many private organizations host their campaigns each fall.
This year, we want to highlight the great work of many of our 70-plus participating organizations who help improve our environment each and every day that are supported by workplace giving donations. Watch this space for additions and updates, but we're pleased to say that we already have several projects announced:September 18th - Dallas - Dallas Green Festival @ Texas Discovery Gardens. Join the Texas Discovery Gardens in partnership with the City of Dallas and the Green Grass Generation. EarthShare of Texas will have a table at the festival on Saturday, September 18th from 9 am to 2:30 pm.
September 19th - Austin - Austin Museum Day at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Noon to 5 pm. In celebration of Austin Museum Day and EarthShare of Texas Week, the Wildflower Center is offering FREE admission all day. Visit with scientists who demonstrate cool things in anthropology, biology, ecology, geology, engineering and other fields from 1 to 3 p.m. at our annual Women in Science event.
September 24th and 25th - Big Bend National Park. Join the Friends of Big Bend for their annual National Public Lands Day program, including the Persimmon Gap Cleanup Project from 9 am to 12 noon on Saturday, September 25th.
September 25th - San Marcos - Join San Marcos River Foundation volunteers in removing floating invasive exotic plants from Spring Lake in San Marcos on Saturday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to noon, at Aquarena Center. Work in jon boats or on shore. All tools, gloves and boats provided, with snacks and cold water. Call 512-787-6392 for details and directions, or email wassenich@grandecom.net. Earth Share information handed out to all volunteers attending.

September 24th - Austin - Nature Nights: Plants and People at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (sponsored by KVUE TV) 6 to 9 pm,
Fun family event! From dyes to jelly, medicine to your daily meal, find out the benefits and use of native plants in our everyday lives. Spanish handouts available. $1 admission, free for members.

September 25th - Austin - National Public Lands Day @ Barton Creek Greenbelt. Join the Austin Parks Foundation and the Hill Country Conservancy for a volunteer workday on the greenbelt on Saturday, September 25th from 9 am to noon. We're looking for up to 500 volunteers to help us remove invasive (trees and plants) species and help with trail reconstruction projects. Sign-up for invasive tree removal crews at the Austin Parks Foundation website. EarthShare of Texas will have a table at volunteer registration at Zilker Trailhead (across from the Zilker Hillside Theatre and the Barton Springs Pool.)
