Competition for scarce water resources. Global climate change. Pollution and invasive species. Wildflower Donor, Inc., addresses these unprecedented challenges through support of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The mission of the Wildflower Center – to increase the sustainable use and conservation of native wildflowers, plants, and landscapes – is carried out through research, demonstration, and education in conservation, horticulture and sustainable landscape design.
Founded in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes, the WildflowerCenter is the nation’s leading voice for native plants, natural landscapes and ecological health. In 2006, the Center became a self-supporting research unit of the University of Texas at Austin, resulting in an increased capacity for national outreach, research and education. When the WildflowerCenter joined the University of Texas, the non-profit organization that had been the WildflowerCenter changed its name to Wildflower Donor, Inc. with a mission of providing support to the WildflowerCenter’s work.
